Is My Mom Gay?
We get this question more than you would think. We have a policy.

The Gay-I Verdict
Gay-I Reading: 0%The Gay-I cannot tell you if your mom is gay, because it was trained exclusively on dads and moms are outside our jurisdiction. It cannot really tell you about your dad, either. If your mom wants to share something about her life, she will be the one to tell you.
Every week, a few people upload a photo of their mom. The Gay-I looks at it for a long time, then returns a score of 0 and what our researchers describe as a confused case file. One case file just said "this is not a dad."
This is not a bug. It is a policy. We would like to explain it.
Why the Gay-I Only Analyzes Dads
The Gay-I was trained exclusively on dads. Its whole understanding of the world comes from grills, cargo shorts, and men saying "we'll see" about things they have already decided against. It has never studied a mom. When it sees one, it does not know where to look.
Our founders built the Gay-I to answer one question, and that question is in the URL. Expanding to moms would require new training data, a new domain name, and a kind of courage we do not have.
Moms Are Outside Our Jurisdiction
The full policy, as drafted by our legal department (Mark), is below.
- Section 1. The Gay-I analyzes dads. Moms are not dads.
- Section 2. Any photo of a mom will be politely declined with a score of 0.
- Section 3. In photos of both parents, the Gay-I analyzes Dad only. It does not comment on Mom, out of respect, and also fear.
- Section 4. Stepmoms, grandmas, and aunts are also outside our jurisdiction.
- Section 5. Uncles are a separate matter. See our extended family coverage policy.
Our Deep Respect for Moms
We respect moms. Moms know everyone's shoe size, every dentist appointment, and where the good scissors are. Our researchers have mothers, and every one of them has asked us to stop calling ourselves researchers.
We also suspect moms would see straight through the Gay-I. Your mom has been watching your dad for decades and never needed a computer to understand his linen shirt. If anyone in your house is doing real research, it is her.
Can Anything Tell You If Your Mom Is Gay?
No. Not the Gay-I, not her haircut, not how many cooking shows she watches. A person's sexuality is theirs to share. If your mom ever tells you something about her life, the right move is the same one we recommend for dads: love her the same. Most of the advice in our guide for when a parent comes out applies to moms too.
In the meantime, if you have a dad, you can upload a photo of him. That is what we are here for. You can also read how the Gay-I works, and why it stops at dads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Gay-I tell if my mom is gay?
No. The Gay-I was trained exclusively on dads. Mom photos return a score of 0 and a confused case file.
Why doesn't Is My Dad Gay do moms?
It is in the name. We also lack the training data, the domain name, and the nerve.
What happens if I upload a photo of my mom?
The Gay-I will decline to have an opinion. Our researchers say this is the only time it has ever done that.
How can I tell if my mom is gay?
You can't tell from the outside, and you don't need to. If it is something she wants you to know, she will tell you, and the right response is to love her the same.
Is there an "is my mom gay" test?
Not one run by us, and not one that works. We have enough on our plate with dads.
The joke is on stereotypes, not on anyone's dad. Nothing on this page can tell you anything about a real person's sexuality. If your dad has actually come out, start here instead.
